Sams told the Namoi Valley Independent earlier this week that the Gunnedah Hawks and Gunnedah United clubs had joined forces for 2018.
“It’s looking very good for this year. The club’s looking very solid and we’ve had a combination of two clubs,” Sams said of the Hawks and United.
“Both clubs were probably struggling a bit for players, so, we needed to consolidate and make our club solid.
It makes life so much easier for you. You know you've got at least 22 players and you’re not going to struggle.

“It makes life so much easier for you. You know you've got at least 22 players and you’re not going to struggle. We’re looking forward to it.”
Sams said both teams would play under the Gunnedah Hawks flag with the first grade side playing in Gunnedah United colours with the reserve grade side to play in Hawks colours.
Richard Grant will coach the first grade side while Blake Small will lead the reserve grade team.
With the Tamworth District Football competition set to start on May 5, the sides will play trials this weekend against the Kootingal Kougars in Tamworth on Sunday.
The Hawks will also hold their AGM on April 22 at the Gunnedah Hotel at 3.30pm.
