It’s a tremendous effort given the amount of time and money it takes to host a successful country show.

The first Gunnedah Show was held in 1888.

Since then, it has grown to be one of the premier agricultural and entertainment events in North West NSW.

The Gunnedah Show Society is a non-for-profit organisation.

It is made entirely of volunteers who give their time to provide an opportunity for people from across the region and interstate to take part in an agricultural show and enjoy good country hospitality.

This is what brings people back to the Gunnedah Show each year, combined with a great range of entertainment and great weather.

From the early days the show has been well supported by the local community with it being an important part of this agricultural region.

Over the 130 years there have been some difficult years because of the low numbers of volunteers, financial constraints and seasonal conditions.

But with good leadership, community support and new volunteers the show has continued, which is a great achievement for Gunnedah.

Every interest is catered for. There are the traditional horse events, pavilion, cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry through to art, photography, rodeo, utes and working dogs.

Each show provides an opportunity for people to come together – whether they live in town, on a property, run a business or are from another region – they can meet up, enjoy some great entertainment – watch family and friends competing, enjoy some food and a drink at the updated show bar, enjoy the grand parade and the fireworks display.

The showground has seen some changes over the 130 years – with new buildings going up and others being renovated. While the showground is managed by Gunnedah Shire Council – the Show Society continues to volunteer their time to improve and update the facilities.
