The clean up of thousands of one-day old chicks is underway at Burley Griffin Way towards Binalong after a truck crashed down an embankment just after 2am today.

Bruce Turner, works-construction coordinator at Yass Valley Council, who is overseeing the operation said there was around more than 100,000 chicks in the truck.
“There’s 108,000 chicks in there – we’re just picking them up now,” Mr Turner said.
He said the driver was taken to hospital earlier this morning.
“He’s got only a few scratches,” Mr Turner said.

He and other crew members attended the site at about 2.45am.
The chicks will be transported via another truck.
Mr Turner said the clean up should be completed at about midday.
“Hopefully in a couple of hours we can get everything off the paddock – that’s the plan,” he said.
A NSW police spokesman said the semi-trailer, which was travelling west, left the road and rolled six metres down an embankment.
Police confirmed the 30-year-old driver was taken to Yass Hospital wiht minor injuries.
The Westbound lane remains closed.
Investigations are continuing.

There is a truck accident on Burley Griffin Way at Bowning near Goondah Road.
Traffic in both directions is affected.
The truck is off the road, down an embankment.
There are alternating (stop/slow) traffic conditions in place.
Emergency services are in attendance.
The accident began at 2.18am today.
Please reduce speed and exercise caution.
