POLICE are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding a dual truck crash on the Newell Highway near Coonabarabran last night.

The accident caused the highway to be closed in both directions between Coonabarabran and Narrabri with traffic diversions in place directing motorists onto the Kamilaroi Highway towards Gunnedah.
The diversions have now been lifted and the Newell Highway has been re-opened under alternating stop-and-go conditions.
A spokesperson for Coonabarabran police said investigations into the accident are still ongoing.
“We are unsure of what caused the accident at this stage,” the spokesperson said.
“Police are still conducting investigations.”
The alternating stop-and-go conditions will remain in place while road and emergency crews conduct the vehicle recovery process.
Live Traffic NSW is advising motorists to allow themselves additional travel time between Coonabarabran and Narrabri.
