Dressed in blue, members used the day to honour the memory of the late Amy Jayne ‘Dolly’ Everett who took her own life at the age of 14 after being bullied.
The death of the Northern Territory teenager touched people across the North West and Gunnedah Pony Club used their rally day to raise awareness and funds for Dolly’s Dream Foundation.
Club secretary Di Hobden said the event raised much needed awareness of the issue of bullying.
“It was a way for us to let our members know that if there is always someone they can talk to within the club”
“It was also an opportunity for us to reinforce to our kids that bullying is unacceptable.”
Mrs Hobden said the issue of bullying “touches everyone”.
“It was really about telling our kids that there is always a shoulder to lean on within our club whenever they need it.”
The club also used the day as a membership day and the first rally day of the year.
“We had 26 riders on the day,” Mrs Hobden said.
“Everyone wore blue and we had a range of kids across all ages from led line to associate riders”.
“We raised money through gold coin donations and a jelly bean guessing competition, we raised just short of $100.”
Gunnedah & District Pony Club welcome new riders and members to their club between the ages of 3 and 25 years.
“Our February rally was our first membership day but riders can join at anytime; and new members are always welcome”.
The Gunnedah Pony Club will host it’s 65th annual pony camp from April 17 to April 22nd. If anyone would like more information on membership or camp please contact Diane on 0427230880 or email gdhpcsec@yahoo.com
