Artistic Inspirations and More is on display at Gunnedah Bicentennial Creative Arts Gallery and features works by Sydney printmakers Bernhardine Mueller and Margaret Vickers and 14 local printmakers. Prints created by the late Pat Rowley are also included in the collection.
Bernhardine Mueller has been coming to Gunnedah for 18 years to conduct printmaking workshops and thought the Creative Arts Gallery would be a great space for fellow printmaker and Sydneysider Margaret Vickers to exhibit her works.
“I liked the idea because I think through print making and the creative arts, we are bringing people together,” Ms Vickers said.
The Arctic is the focus of Ms Vickers’ body of work, which she created during a three-month residency after spending time in Iceland and Greenland and observing the impacts of global warming.
“I love the idea of bringing the Arctic to Gunnedah,” she said.
“I think it’s the environment underpinning [all of] these works.”
The late Pat Rowley also explored nature in her prints and was a member of the Gunnedah Printmakers.
Ms Rowley was born and bred in Boggabari and was a distinguished printmaker known for her superior colour reductions.
Fellow artist Anne Pickett said Ms Rowley was both her friend and neighbour.
“They used to call her ‘Gunnedah’s hidden treasure’, and that’s about what she was,” Mrs Pickett said.
Arctic Inspirations and More will be exhibited until April 8.
Workshops and artist talk
On Saturday and Sunday (March 10-11), Bernhardine Mueller will host a collagraph workshop from 9am-4pm. It will focus on safe printmaking techniques with collagraphs, including colour roll-ups, a la poupe (colour) and viscosity printing. The workshop is designed for beginners as well as more established artists.
On Tuesday, Margaret Vickers will share the inspirations that drive her creative processes and share how the landscape has directly influenced her art-making practices.
