Kookaburras veteran Cameron Milne has labelled this weekend’s knockout final against Court House at Wolseley Park as his side’s grand final and a match they have been building towards all season.
Court House, the reigning premiers, are red-hot favourites to advance to another grand final duel with Albion. But Milne has said Kookaburras will not go into the match lacking confidence.
He said the side’s training run on Wednesday night was the best of the season.
“Cricket’s a funny game … There’s no guarantees,” he said.
He added: “We’re bowling well. Depending what the conditions are, anything can happen.”
Kookaburras have not beaten Court House this season.
For that to happen this weekend, Milne said Kookaburras would have to bat well – something they had been poor at this season.
As the side’s top batsmen, Milne aims to lead by example.
He said: “If we bat to our potential and put on a good score, we’ve probably got the bowling attack to knock them over.
“We’ve been pretty good with our bowling all year. Our batting has let us down.
“It’s the same ingredients every week. The last two weeks I’ve made runs and the team’s done well.
“What it comes down to is taking opportunities when they arise.”
Milne said he “wouldn’t have a clue” if Court House would go into the match over-confident.
But he stressed that Kookaburras had “put a plan in place” to cause the upset of the season. He did not elaborate.
He said: “We’ve been working for this all year.”
He added: “Our results say that we’ve been improving. We’ve been bowling well all year.”
Court House player Blake Small said batting had been an issue for his side recently.
He said: "Batting has probably been the part that has let us down over the last couple of weeks."
He added: "We are not full strength this week but I think we have the players there to get us over the line."
