The volunteer branch continuously has animals in care, which receive the round treatment before they are rehomed, with the branch taking on the costs of desexing, vaccinating, micro-chipping and vet health checks.
The community grant is the direct result of public voting through the Greater Bank’s website.
Greater Bank’s Gunnedah manager, Rista Friend, said that it was wonderful to see the Gunnedah community get behind their own in the first round of the expanded program.
“RSPCA Gunnedah is a fantastic local organisation that clearly has great support throughout the community,” she said.
“After meeting those involved and seeing first-hand the work they do, I know this funding will make a real difference to the work they do in our community.”
The RSPCA is thrilled to win this month’s round.
“All our members are really excited and really grateful that the community has voted so many times,” member Maddison Lawback said.
“The funds are going to be a really big help especially when we have so many animals in care and so many that need rescuing.”
The branch currently has more than 20 cats and dogs in care but can have up to 60 cats alone in kitten season.
“During the cooler months we do see a decline in the adoption rates so we’re hoping to get anything in care a home sooner rather than later,” Ms Lawback said.
“There are so many animals that need rescuing.”
The branch is still in great need of foster carers and volunteers to help with fundraising.
“With our current foster carers, it really limits us because we’re so exhausted from caring for so many animals that when we want to do something fun, we don’t have the energy or the time,” Ms Lawback said.
“The more support we can get, the more things we can do.”
RSPCA Gunnedah was up against two Tamworth-based organisations for a share in the monthly Greater Bank community grants program.
This month, two more Gunnedah-based groups have been nominated for funding – Goolhi CWA and PRAMS. To vote or to nominate, visit www.greater.com.au/greaternewengland
