Groth is happy with how his stable’s going at the moment but not because of the wins – because of how his horses are running.

“If they're performing at their best and not winning, I’m still pleased. You can’t win every race,” Groth said.

“There’s a lot of factors to take into consideration – barrier draw, luck in running. You can get them right but on race have nothing go your way. 

“You need a lot of luck.”

Groth will be hoping luck is on his side heading into meetings at Gunnedah and Tamworth over the next week.

Divine Brown is one runner set to line up for Groth and will race at either or Gunnedah on Saturday or Tamworth on Monday.

The dual-nominated horse has just returned from a 12-month layoff due to a tendon injury with a third at Gunnedah followed by an 11^th at Tamworth.

Groth will make a decision on which meeting the mare will run at on Thursday.

Either way, the trainer said Divine Brown was in good nick heading into the weekend

“Wherever she starts third up, she should be ready to produce,” Groth said.

“She had a nice third at Gunnedah and I backed her up in a bigger race a week later and she wasn’t ready, that was my fault.

“She’s freshened up now and hopefully everything goes well.”

One definite runner for Groth at the Boggabri Cup meeting at Gunnedah on Saturday will be Crimson Sun.

The gelding will line up in the Tab.com.au - Have A Quaddie At Gunnedah Class 1 Handicap over 1200 metres.

Groth said Crimson Sun had the potential to add to his one career win if all goes well.

“If drawn favourably, he should run well,” Groth said.

“He does do a bit wrong. He’s a difficult horse to get a gauge on.

“He’s very lazy in his track work but he seems to put in more on race days.”
