While 93 nominations have come in for the six-race card, there will be another race of the non-equine variety which is sure to catch the eye of racegoers.
The Gunnedah Jockey Club will hold a sporting club challenge.
“It’s a novelty relay race up the straight. We did it for the first time last year,” Gunnedah Jockey Club secretary manager Mark Storey said.
“Teams of four race and it’s free to enter but anyone wearing their local sporting club shirt to the day, whether it be from Gunnedah, Tamworth or anywhere around here, will get a free drink voucher.”

The winning team of the relay race will take home $250.
Along with the novelty race, the jockey club will hold a Fashions in the Fields.
Three categories will be run – ladies classic, ladies open and best dressed male – with $250 up for grabs in each. Storey said there’ll be something to do for all the family.
“There’ll be kids rides, entertainment – all the usual stuff – and if it’s hot there’ll be a misting tent,” Storey said.
In the main race, 14 horses had been nominated as of Tuesday morning including local hopes Gavin Groth with Divine Brown and Sally Torrens with Blake Street.
Buses to the track will leave from the Boggabri RSL at 11.30am while shuttle buses will leave from Gunnedah – from the golf course, Wolseley Park and McDonalds – at 12.30pm and 1pm.
