The first episode airs tonight at 9.10pm and follows the travel journeys of average Aussies as they experience new countries.
We had another chat with the Cowgirls. Check out our latest story with Stack and Mel here.
The show features identical twins Stacey and Mel Wilburn, aka Stack and Mel, who have been dubbed the “cowgirls” because of their background in mustering, roping and rodeos.
Stack is a former Gunnedah resident and was living at a “mate’s place” when she discovered Travel Guides in 2016.
“I was living in Gunnedah at the time and I was riding horses and I saw the ad on TV and I put in an application and put Mel as my partner. And they rang a few days later,” Stack said.
Mel said they were “thrilled” to be chosen.
“We were just so excited that they would actually want us on their screen because we thought, ‘We’re just your normal average Aussies’,” she said.
Stack said they film for about three-and-a-half months at a time then have a break of 12 months and get back to their “every day lives”.
“We love it,” she said
“It’s a great opportunity and something we’d never be able to do without the show.”
Before Travel Guides, the pair had never left Australia but they have now travelled to 11 countries. Mel said it is a big change to go from rural Australia to bustling countries.
“We go somewhere that is so crammed and so tight and so busy [overseas] and when we’re home, sometimes we don’t go to town for a week or a fortnight and I might not see any one for a few days,” she said.
The twins have plenty of new experiences under their belts including driving a red Ferrari in Italy in season one. In the episode, Mel takes the wheel of the sports car and Stack eggs her on from the backseat. But Mel isn’t the only one who has taken the reins.
“I flew a plane in New Zealand,” Stack said.
New Zealand is their favourite travel destination so far but the visit included some “very scary moments” including bungee jumping.
“I’m very scared of heights but coming up [in season two], I found something a lot scarier than bungee jumping,” Mel said.
“Stack makes out she’s really tough but she just goes to water.”
The twins said they were excited about seeing the first episode of season two tonight and would be “just as surprised” to see the result of filming as everyone else.
