By the Namoi River, a number of community members went through a citizenship ceremony guided by Gunnedah shire mayor Jamie Chaffey and The Hon Sarah Mitchell, MLC.
A highlight of the day so far is the ever-popular Raft and Craft race. Race-goers of all ages gathered at Cushan’s reserve with wild and wacky rafts and crafts, including drums and trampolines. Kayakers put on some speed to reach the finish line at Donnelly Fields.
John Hickey came in first on a kayak and the first raft to cross the line was manned by Ben Simkus, Aisha Elsley, Sarah Bridge, Charlie Stephens, Emma Woodhouse, Phil Jennings, Mitchell Lawler and Jeff Harding.
Gunnedah’s Fire & Rescue team set-up at the Woolshed Reserve and turned the hoses on the rafts and crafts, let kids have a go in the fire truck, and make a water fountain for the youngsters to run through in the heat.
There’s plenty more to come over the course of the day.
