Emergency services were first called to the Hopedale Avenue property at around 8pm where they found the house already alight.
Gunnedah Fire and Rescue captain David Welch said the family had “lost everything” in the fire.
“It was a very large fire,” captain Welch said.
“No one was in the house when emergency services arrived and luckily no one was injured as far as we know.”
Two trucks and 13 firefighters were needed to help contain the blaze which caused a great deal of smoke and water damage.
“After the energy providers cut the power our crews got to work,” captain Welch said.
“It was a good effort from all the services to contain the fire around midnight and to prevent any further damage.”
While there wasn’t any dangerous materials in the house, captain Welch said emergency services worked together to evacuate the area.
“The fire was burning very hot and all the emergency services did a great job clearing the area,” he said.
“It was also great to see the community spirit alive and see the neighbours get behind the effected family.
“This is a timely reminder for people to make sure they have installed smoke detectors and that they are working.”
