The local Milo T20 Blast participants were invited to play a game during the lunch break on the first day of the final Ashes test.
Unfortunately, rain washed out the morning’s play and the rejigged schedule meant they weren’t able to have a hit, but they still had the opportunity to go out onto the ground and meet some of their heroes.
“The kids walked around and got to meet some of the players,” Gunnedah Junior Cricket Association’s Katrina King said.
“Ashton Agar came out and spoke to the group.”
Eighteen kids made the trip, with King extending the invitation to players from Tamworth and Quirindi to fill out the 32 slots they were allocated.
“The kids were excited all day. They just wanted to get out there,” she said.
After being cheered around the ground, they then got to sit back and watch the Aussie bowlers go to work.
“Josh (Hazlewood) came back and rested up our end. He had an esky and towel there. A few of the kids were lucky enough to get his autograph,” King said.
