The school has embraced the NSW Government Come Play Summer Pilot Program, which has seen the playground open up to the Gunnedah community until the new term begins.
Mums Jacki Fitzroy and Mandy Kersley live near the Lincoln Street grounds and have been taking advantage of the space, which boasts play equipment, a large grassy area, sandpit and a play house.
“I think it’s brilliant because it’s under the shade,” Ms Fitzroy said.
“There are also bubblers and seats where you can sit and have some lunch.
“It’s a good set-up.”
Ms Fitzroy said the playground had proved popular, with many families spending time there.
Ms Kersley said she loved that the area was fenced and quiet.
“There are no roads the kids can run out on,” she said.
“Normally, we’re up and down trying to keep the kids in one area.”
The mums said it was also good to go somewhere different.
“As mums we go to the park a lot to get out of the house so it’s good to have something new for the school holidays,” Ms Kersley said.
The program is also beneficial for GS Kidd, which will receive a $15,000 grant to assist in upgrade its facilities for community and school use.
