Central North captain Coby Cornish says the future is bright for the region’s under-18 side after they secured their first win of the Country Colts Championships in Tamworth on Wednesday.

Following Central North’s 82-run defeat of North Coastal at Riverside 5, Cornish predicted big things for his team based on the “youth factor”.
He said: “There are very promising signs for the next couple of years.
“A lot of our boys are a year or two younger [than most of the players at the championships].
“So we’ve got a good couple of years coming up. I’m very optimistic.
“I think we’ll have a very strong team over the next couple of years.”
After dropping their opening two games to ACT Southern and Central Coast, Central North won the toss against North Coastal and reached 7-199 off 50 overs.
Isaac Barry top-scored with a 144-ball 82.
They then bowled North Coastal out for 117 in the 37th over.
Opening bowler Jaidon Tasker was the chief destroyer with 4-31 off nine overs.
Also on Wednesday, Central Coast chased down ACT Southern’s 8-252 off 50 overs, hitting the winning runs in the 49th over.
ACT Southern opener Jordie Misic blasted a 146-ball 125.
Luke Jacobs snared 3-38 off 10 overs for Southern.
Central Coast opener Broc Hardy hammered a 128-ball 109.
In the other matches on Wednesday, Riverina beat Illawarra by 75 runs and Newcastle downed Western by 31 runs.
The championships conclude on Thursday.
