Wishing everyone a very happy Christmas and a blessed New Year. A special thank you to all our volunteers who have contributed so much to those in need this past twelve months and especially those caring for our "living treasures" - our older folk who have set the foundation for what Gunnedah is today. Words cannot express the big debt of gratitude we owe also, I to all our emergency and medical personnel who serve us so well throughout the year and over the holiday time. May God bless you all in the year ahead and in the midst of all the Christmas glitter, don't forget the real story of Christmas - the birth of our Saviour Jesus Christ. My best wishes to you all.
As the year 2017 comes to a close and we prepare for a time of family gatherings and enjoyment before welcoming in the New Year, it is time to reflect upon the past 12 months in our local community of Gunnedah. Whilst the news from around the world is sometimes a little confronting, the future of our local community appears positive and reflects a strong economy and caring community. I hope that you all have a happy Christmas with family and friends and enjoy any holiday time - the cricket, the tennis and the beach - such that you feel refreshed and invigorated for the 2018 year ahead.
Christmas is a special time for many people in our community. Enjoy your celebrations, be safe and always think of others, especially those who look after our safety and needs over the festive season.
To our residents, businesses of the Gunnedah Shire, I would like to take the opportunity to extend my very best wishes to you and your families as the Christmas season is almost upon us. We have achieved so much over so many years. Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who support our community and have a safe and healthy Christmas and New Year from Colleen and Ron.
As a Councillor, this year has passed with a flash and I would like to thank the Community for the privilege of representing you at Council and for your support. It has been an exciting and productive 12 months and the future looks very positive for our Shire. I wish everyone a happy Christmas, take care on the road and a successful 2018.
Christmas brings family, friends and the community together, may the true meaning of the holiday season fill your heart and home with many blessings, wishing you all a safe and happy 2018.
2017 has seen much change in our community and many new projects underway that will see improved infrastructure and facilities for the enjoyment of generations to come. There have been many highlights throughout the very busy year, but the event that is a standout for me was the very successful Mayoral Dinner held in September, we had the pleasure of hosting His Excellency, NSW Governor, General David Hurley and Former Deputy Prime Minister John Anderson, and their wives. Seeing more than 380 people attend the great venue, Gunnedah Town Hall, this community building event with the theme “Bringing the Community Together” was held in conjunction with Gunnedah Shire Council and the Ministers Fraternal, Our special guest’s inspiring speech will be remembered for some time to come.
Having attended many ‘end of year’ school presentations and Christmas functions over the last few weeks, I am pleased to acknowledge and celebrate the wonderful sense of community shown by residents of Gunnedah Shire. It is tangible and we should be very proud of this fact.
The ‘Carols by Candlelight’ at Wolseley Park was very well attended and enjoyed by all on the night – both young and old (and thanks once again to the Ministers Fraternal for organising this great night). It is a wonderful time for us to remind ourselves of the importance of peace and goodwill, generosity of spirit and the true meaning of Christmas.
Of course, as the year comes to a close, we are left to reflect on our achievements throughout the year, which are numerous. There have been many significant projects that have received funding announcements and will be delivered throughout 2018. Highlights being the Curlewis Pipeline Water Supply Project and Livvi’s Place Inclusive Playground. Projects that are well underway are the upgrade to our Sewerage Treatment Plant, Blackjack Flood Mitigation Project and of course the recent commencement of our Memorial Pool Complex Upgrade, and many more to come.
There are also the many people who make huge contributions within the community without any real recognition. A huge thank you goes to all those who spend their time volunteering (in any capacity) to make the Shire a better place. Your commitments are made not only at Christmas time, but throughout the whole year and the work that you do really has huge impacts.
For many of us, Christmas means families gathering in Gunnedah or other parts, sharing generously with family and friends, the joys and blessings we have earned during the year. Throughout our Shire there will be many opportunities to attend a Christmas church service in the lead up to and on Christmas Day, and I would like to encourage all to consider attending a service to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
I extend my best wishes to all residents on behalf of my fellow Councillors and Staff of Gunnedah Shire Council and hope that your Christmas and New Year holiday period is a safe, happy and peaceful time, such that you are refreshed for the many opportunities and challenges that the year ahead shall provide. I wish to encourage all residents and visitors who are travelling on our roads to be patient and safe during this very busy holiday period.
Christmas is the season for peace, joy and fellowship with family and friends. Best wishes to you all during this holiday season and throughout 2018.
Robyn and I take this opportunity to wish all residents of Gunnedah Local Government Area a safe and Merry Christmas and the New Year is a happy and successful one.
