Year 10 student Jack Randall will be heading to the University of Newcastle while fellow students Kira Goodhew and Hannah Bennett travel to the big smoke to spend time at the University of Sydney. All three will stay on campus.
From January 3-10, Jack will investigate water chemistry at the university and look into renewable energy at CSIRO’s Energy Centre. He enjoys science and has elected to do extension mathematics, physics and chemistry at school next year.
In mid-January, Hannah will spend time in the humanities and law department and Kira will explore the science faculty.
“It’s just to give me a glimpse into law,” Hannah said.
“I think being a lawyer is what I’ve wanted to do for ages.
“I think being able to stick up for someone or represent someone would be really good.”
Kira will be taking chemistry and biology next year.
"I want to be in forensics,” she said.
Year 10 supervisor Jen Long, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Focus teacher, Sam Kennedy, worked together to submit nine applications to various universities for summer school programs.
“It’s worth it if they get in because it opens their eyes to what’s out there,” Ms Long said.
