For those with clever fingers who want to give a unique gift, How Tea Cosies Changed The World by Loani Prior might be the book for you. It’s full of directions for making tea cosies from the basic to works of art.
Also in the handicraft section is 50 Pincushions to Knit & Crochet by Cat Thomas. These little pincushions are mini-artworks and cover a range of techniques. Then there’s Made By Yourself by Peter Fehrentz – “100 per cent handmade designer DIY projects for the home, from furniture to accessories” – inexpensive everyday objects made from leftovers around the house.
Around this time, people’s thoughts turn to food, and the library is well stocked with recipe books for all occasions. Added this week are, Superfood: Juices, Smoothies & Drinks: Recipes and advice to boost your emotional and physical health by Jason Manheim. It not only contains recipes, but also explains the benefits of particular ingredients.
If you’re stuck for the perfect recipe for a certain day, try 365 Main Courses: A deliciously different dish for every day of the year. Easy to follow directions, and mouth-watering photos.
People planning a road or rail trip shouldn’t forget to take something to entertain themselves and/or their children. The library has a good supply of talking books to keep you enthralled as the kilometres roll by. Try Echoes from the Macabre by Daphne Du Maurier. This talking book in the MP3 format is described as “Six hours, 30 minutes … featuring five tales of quiet terror from the classic short story collection”.
Remember, the library will be closed over the Christmas and new year break from 12pm on Friday, December 22, and will re-open at 9.30am on Tuesday, January 2, 2018.
See you soon at the library!
