Whitton impressed with her skills and commitment to the sport.
Despite hailing from Gunnedah – where there was no women’s AFL team in 2017 – Whitton has persisted with her chosen sport.
Whitton travelled far and wide this season to play with the Inverell Saints who went on to win the inaugural women’s premiership in the North West.
Whitton will develop her fitness and skills over the next six months with the NIAS program.
The next regional training will see the implementation of the Sydney Swans Academy Strength and Conditioning program. The program is being modified and adapted by Armidale-based Matt Pine, who was formally the strength and conditioning coach for the Sydney Swans. Other regional sessions will be held leading into 2018 AFL North West competition.
