The call-out comes on the back of the success of Secret Bridesmaids’ Business two months ago, with play director Larni Christie and conservatorium director Rebecca Ryan seeing the potential for another stellar show.
Ms Ryan said Chicago was chosen because costume and set building could be easily adapted to the The Civic Theatre’s stage.
Set in the 1920s in America, Chicago is a satirical narrative based on the concept of the “celebrity criminal” in a corrupt criminal justice system. With music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb and book by EBB and Bob Fosse, Chicago has produced some of the most recognised and iconic musical pieces of the 20th Century.
Chicago originally premiered on Broadway in 1975 and ran for four years. In 1996, Chicago was revived on Broadway and now holds the record for the longest-running musical revival and longest-running American musical in Broadway history.
The Gunnedah Conservatorium is seeking 10 female and nine male leads to perform in the Gunnedah adaptation, which is set to hit the stage in May 2018.
Auditions for actors will be held on December 1 from 6-9pm and December 3 from 10am. Auditions for dancers will be held on December 3 from 2pm-3pm.
For those interested in auditioning, head to the Gunnedah Conservatorium in the Gunnedah Town Hall for an audition pack. For more information, contact Larni Christie on 0422 331 981 or Rebecca Ryan on 0414 805 176.
