Kathie Spence’s 33 years of voluntary work as a committee member was recognised with life membership at the organisations annual general meeting on October 23.
The meeting held at Jack and Jill’s cafe voted in a new committee and awarded Mrs Spence’s efforts with the honour of life membership.
Mrs Spence said the award came as a surprise.
“It was very humbling to be honest,” she said.
“I don’t do this for the awards or recognition, I do it because it’s such a worthy cause.
“It’s something I can do out of hours and it has helped me make life long friends and have a lot of fun over the years.
Since becoming a committee member with the organisation Mrs Spence said it had become like a second family to her.
“They say it takes a village to raise a child and I totally agree,” she said.
“My family are involved in nearly every aspect of the organisation and it does become a second family to you.
“I am still enjoying what I am doing and it has been nice to see it go full circle, from my children to my grand children,” she said.
