Plans for the roundabout at the intersection of Boundary Road and the highway were announced by MP Kevin Anderson in September.
For the past two weeks, traffic conditions have changed on the highway, with the speed limit lowered from 60km/h to 50km/h and one-way traffic enforced a number of times.
An RMS spokesperson said “essential maintenance work” was being carried out on the Oxley Highway at Gunnedah.
“Work involves resurfacing a 700 metre section of road between the roundabout and Boundary Road to improve safety for motorists,” the spokesperson said.
“The work is expected to be completed in early November, weather permitting.
“Planning for a new roundabout at the Boundary Road intersection is continuing and the community will be kept informed as the project progresses.”
In September, Gunnedah mayor Jamie Chaffey said the project would help ease congestion at peak times and move traffic through the intersection more effectively.
