Member for Tamworth, Kevin Anderson, said the NSW Government is funding the plan to improve flood immunity along the Oxley Highway between Tamworth and Gunnedah.
“When it rains, localised flooding of the Hoss Causeway and Tommy Swamp can result in the temporary closure of the Oxley Highway, causing lengthy delays for motorists,” Mr Anderson said.
“The proposed work involves raising the level of the road and installing new drainage at these locations, as well as raising the road level on Gunnembene Lane.
“It’s a game-changer for motorists, as the proposed work will not only allow the highway to remain open in flood events, but will also improve safety and reduce future maintenance costs.”
Mr Anderson said the community will be kept informed as the proposal progresses.
