The annual event is hosted by Gunnedah Show Ladies Auxiliary and is held in the CWA rooms in Barber Street.
It was in fact the Gunnedah CWA, which took out champion rose with a lovely Peace rose. CWA president, Coralie Howe, is also involved in organising the rose show and said the committee was “amazed at the wonderful display of roses”.
Chosen judge, florist Judy Clarke was unable to attend so her daughter-in-law Shannon took the task on and she was congratulated on doing a great job.
“A rose is a rose but when a winner has to be selected from 62 red roses, it’s a big ask,” Ms Howe said.
“There were 60 bi-colour, 51 pink and a host of other colours in the 11 sections.”
Organisers Ms Howe and Val Howes said they were thankful to the sponsors for their “generosity” in prizes, Graham Howes, Rod Withers and Lou Flett for transporting the bottles, and the ladies who “helped in many ways on the days”.
