Sam Jones, Jonathon Morrison and Mitchell Clarke were all in Sydney over the weekend for the NSW All Schools Championships at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre.
The event will be one to remember for The Armidale School’s Sam Jones who was competing in the endurance races.
Jones’ best effort was in the 2000m steeplechase where the 15-year-old picked up the bronze medal.
In the 1500m Jones claimed the seventh quickest times in the preliminary rounds before claiming seventh in the final and finished ninth in the 3000m.
16-year-old Clarke competed in the 100m, 200m and 400m with the Carinya student’s best effort coming when he claimed sixth in the final of the 200m.
Carinya student Morrison also had three events to compete in with the 100m, 200m and pole vault.
The 15-year-old’s best effort came in the 200m where he competed in one of the fastest heats to come 21st overall.
Gunnedah students will compete at the NSW PSSA Athletics Carnival this Wednesday and Thursday.
Gunnedah South had nine students qualify. Those students are Jake Arkins (jnr relay), Chad Fifher (800m, jnr relay), Mason Louis (jnr relay), Emylie Murrell (discus), Jaycob Price (high jump), Harry Ryman (100m, jnr relay), Bella Sawyer (high jump, long jump), Owen Shoesmith (200m, high jump, long jump), Ellie Thomas (high jump).
