Gunnedah Poultry Club held its 70th annual show on the weekend with 605 prized poultry on exhibit.

More than 50 exhibitors travelled for the well-respected event on Sunday.
The show boasted 16 juniors exhibiting 63 fowl between them.
Poultry judges hailed from all over the country, and included Brian Bennett of Hadspen,Tasmania; Owen Glover of Narangba, Queensland; Jon Glover, of Gunnedah; and Mick Pilley, of Mudgee.
The judges made mention of the “high quality and preparation of the fowls that were exhibited was outstanding – the exhibitors should be congratulated”.
Poultry club president Chris Mammen expressed a congratulations on behalf of the club to the two main winners of the show, Chris Jaeger (Ossie Douglas Memorial Shield Bird of Show) and Ron Brown (Reserve Bird of Show).
“And thank you to all the exhibitors who attended our show,” Mr Mammen said.
“A huge thanks to the judges for attending and the stewards who assisted throughout the judging process, as well as all our sponsors.
“And a huge thank you to our Gunnedah Poultry club committee members who work very hard to make the show such a success,” he said.
“We have a great club and this reflects the great feedback we received from both judges and exhibitors who had a fantastic day.”
Local winners in the junior section included, Chas Jaeger (overall champion junior, champion and reserve hard feather bantam), Gunnedah High School (reserve champion overall and champion large fowl), and Leila Harris (champion and reserve soft feather bantam and best presented junior).
Mr Mammen said valued exhibitor Graham Finlay’s poultry was on show on Sunday, but he was also a junior exhibitor at the club’s first show in 1947.
Club secretary Janice Mammen was recognised for 10 years of service to the club in her role as secretary with a presentation of flowers.
