In first grade, coach Andy Cygan scored with his first touch as he lobbed the keeper after a great flick through by Rob Pryor.
Jordan Barnes then broke clean through and calmly finished before Cygan got his second to give Gunnedah a 3-0 lead at half-time. Keeper Matt Budden was forced off at half-time injured and was replaced by David Thomson.
The scoring then opened up with Hillvue getting an early goal only for captain Matt Williams’ instant reply. This happened two more times as Hillvue came back only for Williams to score each time and get his hat-trick.
Cygan then finished his hat-trick to make it 7-3 before Hillvue got another.
Hugh Jennings ensured it was game over, scoring from close range, to make it 8-4 to Gunnedah.
Reserve grade moved to second on the ladder with a hard-fought 3-2 win against Hillvue.
A long range free kick wasn't dealt with by David Thomson in goal and it somehow went under his body to give Hillvue an early lead before Baily Keeler equalised and Mr Reliable Rob Pryor gave Gunnedah a 2-1 lead.
Not long into the second half, Keeler fired home to extend the lead.
Gunnedah dug in to hold the lead with Millie O'Donnell and Jayden Thomas working hard on the wings. In defence Mitch Whitten barely put a foot wrong supported Cody Auld, Daniel Pengilly, and Matt Budden. Hillvue got a second but Gunnedah held on for a 3-2 win.
