Gunnedah coach Sean Hayne said Sunday’s win against Wee Waa was a sight better than the side’s last game – where the Bulldogs scraped home against Collegian – but there’s still a way to go.

The Bulldogs became the fourth side to notch up 70 points or more against Wee Waa this Group 4 First Division season as Gunnedah won 72-16.
While the win never looked in doubt, Hayne said a hint of complacency slipped into Gunnedah’s game at times.
“We scored some good tries and made a few stupid mistakes,” Hayne said.
“When we completed our sets, we looked pretty good but a few kickoffs went astray and we dropped ball early in the tackle count.
“I’d say towards the end, it was pretty unstructured. A few sets we tried to go a bit wide without earning it in the middle, [we were] not playing direct enough.”
The loss came on the back of Wee Waa’s best two results this year.
The Panthers were four points away from their first win of the season two rounds ago before the side went one better to register a win against South West Robins.
The bye didn’t seem to help Wee Waa but it did wonders for the Bulldogs.
“I think it was good,” Hayne said of the bye over the long weekend.
“We’d been training for a fair while so it was good to have a weekend off.
“Blokes were able to freshen up and spend time doing whatever they wanted.”
The tries were “pretty well spread around” for the Bulldogs while a mixture of players impressed Hayne.
“Mark Sankey in the back row picked up player’s player and our halves [Marcus Hayne and Matt Brady] picked up the other points,” Hayne said.
“At stages, we were good across the field and we had some young juniors step up today, Dylan Porter and Bailey Lennox went well.”
While Gunnedah showed improvement last round, the Bulldogs will have to ramp things up against North Tamworth this weekend.
“We’re still not where we need to be for next week, we’ll go back to the drawing board,” Hayne said.
“We just need to turn up with the right attitude and put the effort in for 100 per cent of the game.”
