There was a large turnout for the event, with president Brian Coombs welcoming life members Rod Green, Jenny Wharton, Steve and Cathy Smith, Belinda and Geoff Dawson and Glen and Marie Hobson.
Coombs thanked committee members for their untiring efforts over the past year and coach Glen Hobson for his dedication to the swimmers and commitment to excellence in the training lanes.
Outstanding achievement awards, calculated on points awarded for achievement at local, area, NSW Country, state and nationals, went to Nash Boal (10 and under Sparkes family trophy), Anaya Boal (11-13 years, Chapple family trophy) and Jackson Carr (14 and over RSL trophy).
National qualifier Mikaela Meyers received the James and Jenny Meyers high achiever award, donated by her parents, for representation at NSW Country, state and national level.
Other major awards include: the Mikie Maas In the Spirit of the Games Award for team spirit, enthusiasm and effort: Chloe Sumpter. The Steve and Cathy Smith 100 per cent Award for total commitment and effort at squad training: Bayley Williams.
The Lyn Miller Award presented to a swimmer for sportsmanship, enthusiasm and effort, but who may not necessarily win at carnivals: Kurt Rennick. The Eileen Carter Encouragement Award for beginners showing improvement and promise: Angus Waerea and Savannah Lyons.
The Apex Encouragement Awards for swimmers who may not necessarily win at carnivals but demonstrate genuine effort and improvement: Chelsea Palmer and Michael Etheridge. The Coach’s Award for improvement at squad training: Amelia Lush.
The Coach’s Award for achievement at squad: Nash Boal, Sophie Williams, Scout Newbery, Ben McCumstie, Paddy McCumstie, Jack Pinn, Brodie Coombs and Cooper Williams.
The Clare Walker President’s Trophy for dedication and club membership, is awarded for outstanding contribution to club affairs: Glen and Marie Hobson.
The Club Night Volunteer Awards for “most snaps” on time clocks: Sue Newbery, Mon Hannaford, Todd Williams and Gavin Rennick. Season best: Mon Hannaford.
Age champions: Six and under: Edward Waerea and Savannah Lyons. Runner-up: Lylah Tyndall. 7-8 years: Nash Boal and Liette Tindall. Runner-up: Darcy Hannaford.
9-10 years: Cooper Williams and Savannah Lyons. Runner-up: Angus Waerea. 11-12 years: Archie Waerea and Laiken Boal. Runners-up: Kurt Fisher and Brooke Rennick. 13-14 years: Jackson Carr and Maddison Coombs. Runners-up: Bayley Williams and Sophie Williams. 15 years and over: Liam Novley and Zoe Palmer. Open: Kurt Rennick and Maddison Coombs.
Club night awards include: Freestyle: Savannah Lyons, Kurt Rennick and Brodie Coombs. Runners-up: Sophie Williams and Bayley Williams. Backstroke: Amelia Lush and Nash Boal. Runners-up: Ava Hannaford, Liette Tindall and Kurt Rennick. Breaststroke: Amelia Lush and Angus Waerea. Runners-up: Scout Newbery and Jackson Carr. Butterfly: Sophie Williams and Kurt Rennick. Runners-up: Maddison Coombs and Jackson Carr. Individual medley: Sophie Williams and Kurt Rennick. Runners-up: Ava Hannaford and Darcy Hannaford.
Awards for commitment, enjoyment and effort in the learn-to-swim group: Arabella Holmes, Charlie Barnes, Brooke Klienhe, Sophie Hunt, Sam Hunt, Matilda Knight, Rachel Carter, Abbie Passfield, Max Mainey.
Stroke correction group: Oscar Donoghue, Xanthe Hewitt, Courtney Hobden, Lily Joliffe, Mila Peterson, Phoebe Street, Mia Wilkinson, Darby Brown, Ed Waerea, Audrey Hannaford.
With the annual general meeting set down for Wednesday, June 7, Brian Coombs urged parents to think about nominating for a position on the committee.
A special presentation of a famed photograph of the swimmers at various carnivals was presented to retiring coach Glen Hobson, who agreed to “fill in for four months” almost two years ago.
Parents and swimmers expressed appreciation to the veteran coach for his dedication and commitment to the club and his pursuit of excellence in stroke work and squad training.
The evening closed with a barbecue tea and a disco for the children.
