Gunnedah has a 90 per cent chance of 10-20mm of rainfall on Friday as a significant wet weather event heads for the coast.
Showers are forecast to ease in Gunnedah on Saturday but there is still a 70 per cent chance of 10-20mm rain, according to Weatherzone.
Widespread rain is expected throughout the eastern states including Tasmania, which could receive about one to two week's worth of rain for this time of year, in just one weekend.

By 9.30am Friday, Gunnedah had recorded 0.8mm since 5am.
The dusting of moisture is the town’s first rain since in almost a month. The last time Gunnedah recorded any rain was following Anzac Day when 3.2mm fell. But it was March 31, nearly two months ago, when Gunnedah last received any falls (10.2mm) of substance.
Elsewhere around the region on Friday morning, Moree had collected 2.6mm, Quirindi 1mm and Tamworth 0.6mm. It was dry at most other centres.
Gunnedah’s outlook is for a mostly clear day on Sunday with a just a possible shower.
