What happens on court will prove a benefit for those off it after the Gunnedah Tennis Club adopted the use of a new interactive software program called Instacomp.
Developing in Sydney, Instacomp takes the hassle out of organising competitions.
Gunnedah Tennis Club’s Craig Louis said it would prove a game-changer for local tennis.
“We’ve purchased the software and it allows us greater flexibility,” Louis said.
“Players just turn up on the night and will be put into teams, the program works out the doubles and singles formats, and even if there is an odd number it does not matter.
“It takes a great deal of the workload away from players, parents and committees, you don’t need to organise fill-ins.”
The Instacomp will be utilised across all of Gunnedah’s junior and senior tennis competitions.
Louis said the idea with the new format is to appeal to those players unable to commit on a week-to-week basis and ensure they remain a vital part of the game.
“Even if you’re unavailable for 2-3 weeks at a time it does not matter,” he said.
“You can still be part of a team.
“We’re hopeful of being able to lure those mine or shift workers who love their tennis to play, because they aren’t required to play week-in, week-out.
“I’ve been in Gunnedah for 18 years and from a technological point of view, this is one of the biggest things I’ve seen put in place.”
Louis said the scores of matches would be put online and players of all ages could source those results in real time.
“You can put the scores on the big screen, access it on the phone,” he said.
“The scores and ladders will be online.
“In this day and age you’ve got to keep up with the times or you’ll be left behind.”
Term dates for the junior competition is May 5 through to June 23 every Friday night between 6pm-7.30pm.
An information, grading and registration night will be held on April 28 at Wolseley Tennis Courts with a sausage sizzle available.
Registrations can be sent to craiglouis@bigpond.com prior to that evening.
