Gunnedah Show Society president Rob Witts said with perfect weather forecast, he hopes everyone enjoys the 129th show.
“The committee have been working hard over the last 12 months and have a great entertainment program in place that will cater for all ages,” Mr Witts said.
“The weather is looking great and the arena and grounds look fantastic thanks to council staff who have been busy over the past week getting the place looking perfect – it really looks great.
“Many Gunnedah businesses support the show through financial donations, produce, equipment and time,” he said.
“Without this support we couldn’t host the show. It is a great community effort.”
Mr Witts said with the show coinciding with school holidays, organisers are expecting a boost in numbers.
“Not often that the show coincides with the school holidays, which means Friday will be busy and Saturday really busy – so I encourage people to get along on Friday as well, with lots of ring events to watch – dressage and a showjumping spectacular,” he said.
“Outside of Sydney – Gunnedah is one of the best shows in NSW and the North West.
“We attract a lot of competitors from across NSW – who all enjoy coming to Gunnedah – for the arena – the friendly atmosphere and the country people.”
The animal nursery is a popular attraction at the show with a variety of animals to see, including a baby calf, donkey, lambs, baby ducks and chickens. The nursery opens from 10am on Friday.
With 100 extra entries in the art show this year, and over 800 in the photography, convenors promise the art and photography pavilion is worth a look.
Two new kitchens are in the pipeline for the Gunnedah Show Society. They are hosting a raffle throughout the show to raise funds for the project, with tickets available at the art pavilion and show office. The prize is a week’s holiday at Scott’s Head donated by Chris Burgess and Julie Mammen.
The Gunnedah Show will be officially opened at the grand parade at 2.30pm in the main arena by local poet and artist Ann Knight. Helen Cygan will perform the National Anthem, supported by the Gunnedah Shire Band.
