The Panasonic Wild Knights forward called in to Nan and Pop’s (Diane and Jeff Worrell) place in Gunnedah and certainly brought his appetite.
“It was great having the extra strength around the house,” Diane said.
“But we couldn’t keep the refrigerator full.
“He nearly ate us out of house and home. He’s a big boy.”
After a star-studded 2016 debut with the Knights’ Top League side in Japan, Gunter, who was fishing in Papua New Guinea earlier this week, was already looking to his next move.
He will soon fly back to Brisbane before a trial with rival Japanese outfit, the Sunwolves, in New Zealand later this month.
“He’s allowed to do these trial games,” Diane said.
The pair who has cared for Ben since he was just a few months old, had plans to visit him during the season in Japan.
“We would like to get over there and see him this year,” she said.
Both were immensely proud, and deservedly so, of their international rugby star.
“He’s done very well for himself,” she said.
“The sky’s the limit for his future.”
Earlier this year, Gunter expressed his excitement before lining up for the Knights at the 2017 Brisbane Global Tens in February.
“It is great to come home to play in front of plenty of friends and family,” Gunter said.
