Phillip Jason Winsor is being held in the maximum security wing of Cessnock Correctional Centre and appeared via video link in Tamworth Local Court on 11 firearm-related charges.

Solicitor Ben Curnow told the court he had been instructed to enter pleas to all charges.

But solicitor for the DPP Mark Ferguson said the prosecution needed more time to negotiate with the defence who had been served further evidence.

"There's been further statements served," he told the court.

"A very strong brief with eye witnesses ... with significant admissions from the accused made."

Magistrate Roger Prowse granted both sides an adjournment for the crown to determine if the matter will remain in the local court or head to sentence or trial in the district court.

"Bail not applied for, it's refused," he said.

Winsor was refused bail in October after the court was told the allegations against him were "very serious ... involving a weapon" and "immediate threat of serious harm", with Mr Prowse telling the court it was "an extraordinarily strong crown case". 

The charges stem from alleged incidents in Mullaley and Gunnedah in September after he allegedly used a shortened shotgun, wielding it in front of people at a hotel.
