The exhibition was opened on Monday at the Creative Arts Gallery by NSW Guild committee member Sue Turner from Sydney.
The opening was attended by special guests including the closely affiliated Narrabri Group and Gunnedah’s deputy mayor Gae Swain who praised the efforts of the Gunnedah Group.
“For an organisation to travel on doing what you do for 20 years is really wonderful and amazing,” Cr Swain said.
Gunnedah Group convenor Olwyn Jones said the pieces chosen for the exhibition were a “representation of 20 years”.
Gunnedah Shire Council cultural officer, Lauren Mackley was involved in the organisation of the exhibit and said there was a great turnout, with a good response from the community.
Ms Mackley said she now had a “new appreciation” for the skills of the embroiderers.
“The hours and hours spent making intricate works – it’s amazing,” she said.
The Gunnedah Group was officially formed in February 1996 following a community meeting in December 1995 to gauge interest. About 15 of the original members are still members to this day.
The group first celebrated its anniversary in May with a luncheon and display.
