The hulking number eight and ex-St Mary’s College Gunnedah student will trial with Panasonic Wild Knights in the coming weeks.
The club boasts a formidable playing roster which includes past and present Knights stars Sonny Bill Williams, JP Pietersen, Berrick Barnes and former Wallabies boss, Robbie Deans, who coached the side in 2014.
Gunter will even share accommodation with Barnes, a former Queensland Reds, NSW Waratahs and Wallabies back, while in Japan.
Ben’s pop Jeff Worrell recalled how the youngster had a voracious appetite.
“He liked his food,” Jeff said of the towering 190cm loose forward.
The Knights trial comes after a scout spotted Ben playing with his Brisbane Boys College (BBC) side in Japan earlier this year.
Gunter’s schoolboy outfit finished runner-up to South Africa at the Sanix World Youth Rugby Tournament final in Fukuoka.

Not surprisingly, Jeff said there is no shortage of enthusiasm from the big fella even if his new ties are only temporary.
“They [Panasonic] are taking him on for a month to see how he finds it,” Jeff said.
“He’s pretty keen on going.”
A former Gunnedah Red Devil and Narrabri Blue Boars junior, Gunter represented Central North and NSW Country in early years before selection with the NSW Waratahs under-15.
He was awarded a scholarship to BBC in his mid-teens where the discipline of study before play, focused his mindset.
“He had to do his schoolwork before he could play footy,” pop said.
The gentle giant loves fishing and sneaks in a trip back to Gunnedah whenever his training schedule permits.
