Gunnedah’s Ray McCoy who works at Community Radio Station 88.9FM Tamworth, has enlisted the support of former Radio 2MO announcer George Frame who is now the station’s operations manager.
George returned to the area two years ago after working at interstate radio stations and overseas for NBC Los Angeles and CNN.
“We are really pleased to be able to support Gunnedah by helping to promote the event and encourage people in our listening area to come over,” he said.
“Our radio station is all about community and we will be broadcasting from Donnelly Fields on the day to let people know how the event is going.”
Event organiser Debra Hilton said 3000 people needed to come together and hold white umbrellas to make an umbrella mosaic in the shape of a giant White Ribbon for the Guinness World Record Attempt and help raise awareness of domestic violence.
“Ray and his merry band of broadcasters are also getting as many Tamworth residents as they can to jump in the car, hop on the bus, pedal their pushbikes or saddle up their ponies to come over and visit a while,” Debra said.
“The event may be happening in Gunnedah but what an amazing regional statement for this ‘no violence’ awareness raising event it will be to have friends from all our neighbouring shires coming to show support.
“We are on the home straight and are pretty confident we will get 3000 or more participating given the level of interest, - so people who own a white umbrella may like to bring it along on the day,” Debra said.
“We are asking locals to keep sharing the poster with friends and via word of mouth as a good portion of people aren’t on Facebook.”
Gunnedah Shire Council is a major sponsor for the event and local businesses and community organisations have offered their support.
