Trees have been snapped up in lots of between 10 and 200, with many going to the Blackjack Mountain area.
The Namoi Valley Independent will put together an interactive map to show where the trees have gone – and will add to it as Project Koala tallies up more trees planted.
As we near the end of the trees donated to the public by Gunnedah Urban Landcare, Gunnedah’s Project Koala has gained a new partner – Mrs Haths Forest Nursery.
When free trees run out, Gunnedah residents and property owners will still be able to keep planting those trees with a new koala package offered as part of Project Koala.
Mrs Haths Forest Nursery, on the corner of Martin and Mullaley roads, is offering a bimblebox gum, tree guard and fertiliser pill for $3.
The $3 tree package will help residents keep going with plans to help keep Gunnedah koala-friendly.
Janet Hathway from Mrs Haths Forest Nursery said she has always been committed to helping the shire’s koala population.
She can offer advice about planting and keeping trees healthy.
Don’t forget to pick up your Gunnedah’s Project Koala badge from the NVI, the Visitor Information Centre or Gunnedah South Public School for $3.50. Take a photo of yourself or a relative wearing it in an interesting location and send it to marie.low@fairfaxmedia.com.au
You could win a package to four zoos.
GUNNEDAH’S Project Koala started in January this year with a target of 1000 trees, 50 water stations and fund-raising for appropriate projects.
More than 600 trees have now been planted and nearly all have been committed
Gunnedah Shire Council has committed to mass gum plantings and ripping worth $10,000 and will soon have its koala strategy up for public exhibition.
Badges are on sale at the Visitor Information Centre, Gunnedah South Public School and the NVI.
It will soon be time to get fund-raising fully under way!
