Mr Anderson said on the back of community concern, something needed to be done about the road, a 70 kilometre stretch that connects the two towns.
He said 34 kilometres of the road is still dirt and requires sealing.
“This is part of our road network, which is carrying more and more traffic – particularly for workers living in Tamworth, Manilla and Barraba, and travelling to work around Narrabri and Boggabri,” Mr Anderson said.
“Fixing it won’t be easy, as it spans three local government areas – Tamworth, Gunnedah and Narrabri shires.
“I have already received a submission from the Namoi Councils Regional Organisation, which represents those councils, which are all keen to see the dirt sections sealed,” he said.
Mr Anderson said he plans to bring the councils together, as well as mining companies whose employees use the road often, to come up with a solution.
“The community is telling me that the unsealed section is dangerous and needs to be fixed, make it safer, and bringing it up to a standard that can handle the current traffic volume and into the future,” Mr Anderson said.
“Because more people are choosing to live in and around Manilla and travel north, it makes good sense to fix this road and make it safer.
“This is an important part of my transport plan for the Tamworth electorate to provide better and safer roads, while cutting travel times.
“There has been plenty of talk about fixing this road, the time has come for actions to replace words,” Mr Anderson said.
