The cofferdams were constructed during the $40 million dam safety upgrade to keep water away from the construction areas and enable works to continue, regardless of the water level in the dam.
State Water Keepit upgrade site co-ordinator Russell Sainsbury said the high water level had prevented removing the cofferdams when construction works were completed in November 2011.
“The dam level has now dropped below 50 per cent meaning the cofferdams could be removed,” Mr Sainsbury said.
“The removals were completed on time and on budget and we are really pleased with the results,” he said.
Further improvements to the dam are scheduled to start taking place this financial year.
“The upgrade is taking place in two separate packages of works.
“We are looking to relocate some electrical equipment this financial year ahead of works on the main dam wall in future years.”
The upgrade is one of seven State Water is managing to enable the dams to safely pass extreme floods and meet NSW Dams Safety Committee standards which have been revised since the dams were built.
