For the second year in a row the side reached the quarter-finals, their run ended by Wallsend (1) but not before a fantastic fightback.

Down 5-nil with only eight minutes to go they put in a huge effort to cut the difference back to two but just ran out of time going down to a side that they later learnt had two Australian representatives in it 5-3.

“Another few minutes and we might have been able to get there,” player-coach Peta Devine said.

On their way to the quarter finals Gunnedah defeated Wallsend (2) 3-1, drew 3-all with Manly (3) and had close losses to Manly (1) and Central Coast.

“It was a great effort from the girls,” Devine said.

“You’re coming up against Sydney sides and coastal sides that have a lot more players to chose from.”

She said the result was a great reward for their hard work. They’d been training every Sunday morning since September.

The association also had a senior mixed team competing for the first time.

The Paul Brady-coached side unfortunately weren't able to grab a win but put in a gutsy effort against some tough opposition coming up against Easts, Macksville, Port Macquarie, Doyalson and Murwillumbah.

The sides were supported by the Gunnedah Hotel, Darrane Pty Ltd and Pirtek.

Pat Maher, Patrick Rankmore and James Paull also traveled away as referees, with Rankmore while at the tournament being upgraded to Level 4.
