The event, hosted by Gunnedah Family Support Homebase, Healthwise, GOCO , Winanga-li, Reconnect and Flouish will see 15 teams take to the field in non-competitive games to help support the White Ribbon Foundation’s White Ribbon Day and #gunnedahsaysnotoviolence.
Jess Blair from Gunnedah Family Support Homebase said the event would be fun for the whole family.
“During breaks in the games we will have novelty events such as egg and spoon races, balloon relays and even a jumping castle,” Ms Blair said.
“The jumping castle will only be a gold coin donation for a day pass and there will also be a free sausage sizzle on the day as well.”
“In the teams we have grandparents playing with their grandchildren, mums and dads, aunts and uncles so it will be a very family orientated event,” she said.
Ms Blair said she hoped the day would “really highlight our cause.”
“Domestic violence is a big issue for all communities,” she said.
“In Gunnedah we are actually ranked eighteenth out of 155 towns in the state for highest number of domestic violence reports.
“So it is a big issue for our community and it is a figure we would like to see change and it’s events like this that help raise awareness.”
“We have had more people sign up for this years event and at the moment we are expecting roughly 250 people,” she said.
“Hopefully this event will continue to grow.”
Ms Blair also said locals attending the event will be asked to take an oath.
“We will be asking people on the day to take an oath and it’s about standing up, speaking out and acting to prevent and minimise domestic violence,” she said.
“Really it’s about taking a stand and saying Gunnedah says no to violence.”
The touch football family gala day will kick off at 9am Saturday November 25 at the Gunnedah Rugby Park on Wandobah Road.
