The Year 11 Gunnedah High School student flew to Sydney on Tuesday morning to join the competition finalists at Sydney Olympic Park and by lunchtime had claimed the prize for the senior division of the secondary school section.
The competition ran in conjunction with the Archibull Prize and asked students to design an infographic around a career in agriculture that combined their strengths and passions.
Haylee is the first student from Gunnedah High School to enter the infographics part of the competition.
“It included me designing a two-three page article about myself and what I want to do in agriculture as well as designing a day in my dream ag career,” Haylee said.
The teenager found out about the competition through her agricultural teacher Nicole Dwyer, who encouraged her to submit an entry.
“I’m extremely proud of Haylee,” Ms Dwyer said.
“She has so much initiative and drive to do well.
“She's extremely enthusiastic about agriculture and that's what she wants to make her future career out of.
By winning the prize, the teacher said Haylee was helping to “promote what we do here in agriculture and what our students can achieve academically nationally in agriculture”.
Ms Dwyer said Haylee is also a finalists in the Lions Youth of the Year competition on Wednesday night.
