Recently Gunnedah’s Ian Franke was the lucky winner of the weekly raffle taking home $30,000.
The weekly raffle encompasses 10 different golf clubs ranging as far south as Forbes and as far west as Cobar and has a base jackpot of $10,000 that increases by $1000 every week it is not won.
The only catch is the winner has to be at the club to claim the prize, or as Mr Frankie told the Namoi Valley Independent “you have to be in it to win it.”
Mr Franke said he was the moment his number was drawn in the raffle was stunning.
“I was completely stunned,” he said.
“It was the night before my birthday so I guess you could say it was a fantastic early birthday present.”
Gunnedah Golf Club president Steve Johnson said the raffle is a good reward for the clubs members.
“It is something for us to give back to our members,” Mr Johnson said.
“So far, over the five years the raffles have been running our club has had five winners which is a really good success rate.
Club secretary Peter Vernon said everyone at the club was thrilled to see Mr Frankie take home the prize.
“It was fantastic to see Ian win it,” Mr Vernon said.
“Everyone was really excited to see our club get drawn and then one of our members claim the prize.
“It’s fair to say Ian had a lot of friends that night.”
Mr Frankie said celebrations of his win went long into the night.
“I’ll put it this way, I had a decent headache the next day,” he said.
“We certainly had a lot of fun on the night.”
The Gunnedah local said his winnings would go towards an overseas holiday with Europe high on his priority list.
“There will definitely be a holiday,” he said.
“I would really like to see Europe for all it’s history and wonderful scenery.I can’t thank the club and the town enough for their well wishes and congratulations.”
