In 2013, the centre was granted $235,000 from the Shenhua Watermark community fund to build and equip the multi-purpose room.

Shenhua Watermark chief financial officer Lu Yang attended the opening and said contributing to the community is important. 

“It is projects like this that allow us to engage with the local community, a critical part of Shenhua’s corporate social responsibility,” Mr Yang said.

“Shenhua is a strong believer in contributing to the communities within which we work and we are very pleased to be able to assist in closing the gap for these children so they can have the best possible start in life.”

Winanga-Li centre manager Wayne Griffiths said the room would provide the centre with many possibilities. 

“The room will provide us with some pretty significant benefits,” Mr Griffiths said.

“The infrastructure really helps us facilitate our kids club, care workshops and assist kids with school transition.”

Mr Griffiths said receiving the funding grant was very humbling.

“We are very humbled by Shenhua’s contribution,” he said.

“It is helping vulnerable families and we are really thankful for their help.”
