The Gunnedah Fire and Rescue team are no exception and during the month of November they will be growing facial hair for a good cause.
All 18 members of the team will be taking part in 'Movember’ to raise funds and awareness for men’s health and prostate cancer.
Gunnedah Fire and Rescue captain David Welch said it was great to see every member of the team put their hand up for the cause.
“Even though you might have to look closely on a few us everyone is growing a mustache,” Mr Welch joked.
“Seriously though, for all 18 members to put there hand up like this for a good cause is outstanding."
Deputy Captain Andrew Johns praised the team for getting on board.
“I know a few of us were hesitant to grow one because they might not look the best," Mr Johns said.
“The fact they have gone out and done it irrespective of that shows how serious they are about raising money for a good cause.”
Mr Welch also said there was a special side note to the fundraiser.
“One of our members David Moses has not shaved his mustache in I think 20 something years,” he said.
“If he can raise $1000 for the cause he will shave it off.”
Mr Moses said his family are supportive of him shaving off his mustache.
“I know my daughter wasn’t too happy with it to start with,” Mr Moses said.
“She has come around now though because it is for a good cause.”
Mr Welch said the team does not have a fundraising goal but is encouraging the community to get behind them.
“We are hoping to raise as much money as we can, so far we have almost raised $2000,” he said.
