The community based group was announced as a recipient of a $9900 grant to be used to upgrade fencing around the facility on View Street Gunnedah.
The funding for this grant has been provided by round three of the state government’s Social Housing Community Improvement Fund (SHCIF).
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said the funds would help bring the community together.
“Funding from the SHCIF not only improves community facilities, but brings tenants, neighbours and the wider community together,” Mr Anderson said.
The PCYC teamed up with Home Base to apply for the funding.
Andrew Foreman from PCYC said the funding was one of many exciting steps for the organisation.
“It’s the start of some very big thing’s that will hopefully be happening at the PCYC over the next couple of years,” Mr Foreman said.
“The funding for the fence is a step in the right direction, it will allow us fit the new fence to the existing fence and enable us to make the facility look much nicer.”
Jess Blair from Home Base said the upgrade would allow for more community education.
“This new space will allow for tailored educational opportunities,” Ms Blair said.
“Cooking groups, demonstrations and even water conservation seminars are on our agenda for this space, this upgrade will certainly make it more accessible for the community.
“It takes a community to raise children and I think the PCYC has that community feeling.”
Mr Foreman said Home Base played a vital role in receiving this grant.
“Without Home Base this wouldn’t be happening,” Mr Foreman said.
“They have done a lot of the work behind the scenes to get this up and running for us and hopefully in the next couple of month’s we will have something great to show the community.”
Planning for the fence upgrade is in its final stages with construction to begin soon.
