Researchers from the University of Sydney who have been carrying out koala fieldwork on the Liverpool Plains recently discovered a koala they have called “the White Walker”. The koala has heterochromia, an extremely rare genetic condition, giving it two different coloured eyes.

Researchers eartag and microchip every koala they study for future identification. They use two types of tags to be able to recognise each koala on video. There are cameras set up to observe them.
