The Tamworth-based outfit will be one of two Northern Inland representative teams – along with Armidale – to compete at the Women’s State Cup in Speers Point.
The women have been meeting on Sundays at 10am and the time spent together has allowed the team to gel.
“I think the camaraderie,” Tamworth coach Wayne May said when asked what the side’s biggest strength was.
“They play against each other on the weekend but some of them have become good friends.
“It’s good they can put that [rivalry] aside and it’s good for our comp in the long run.”
There’s only so much you can do with limited time together but May said the side had sorted out set moves and the improvement each week had been clear to see.
“They’ve worked hard and they're going to turn up,” May said.
“I’m expecting to do well but we’re playing a different quality down there.
“It’ll be interesting to see how we go.
“The experience for the girls is the main thing.”
Tamworth’s campaign starts on Saturday at 10am against Garden Suburb FC.
The Northern Inland outfit will play at least three games over the weekend before finals commence at 12.30pm on Sunday.
The top two teams from each of the four pools move through to the quarter-finals with the grand final to take place at 5pm on Sunday.
